The Minnesota Senate passed a comprehensive package of gun violence prevention measures aimed at reducing firearm injuries and deaths and strengthening the safety of communities across the state on May 4, 2026.

In response, Annunciation Light Alliance, a group of parents and community members formed after the Aug. 27, 2025 mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church, issued the following statement:

“Gun violence is not abstract for families. It’s personal. It shows up in our schools, our neighborhoods, and in our daily sense of safety. We are encouraged by today’s vote and the momentum it reflects. It’s a meaningful step towards advancing solutions designed to reduce gun violence and keep children and communities safe across Minnesota.

“Prevention requires practical, evidence-informed approaches and a commitment to working across differences to protect lives. We urge lawmakers to build on this progress and continue working toward meaningful action to reduce risk and prevent future tragedies.”

Gun violence remains one of the leading causes of death for children and teens in the United States, with lasting impacts on families, schools, and communities.

Annunciation Light Alliance will continue working with community partners, educators, and policymakers to advance prevention efforts and strengthen safety across Minnesota.
