A city already filled with tension, anger, and grief is rocked by another shooting and death at the hands of ICE agents.
Minneapolis residents woke up Saturday morning to the news of a man being shot and killed by ICE agents on Eat Street, a business district known for it's diverse food offerings.
As more details came out about the altercation between ICE agents and the man, Alex Pretti, the more grief and anger grew among residents.
Pretti was an ICU nurse with the Minneapolis Veterns Affairs and was outside observing ICE officals on Saturday morning. Multiple video angles show that when a fellow ICE observer was shoved by an ICE agent, Pretti intervened, and was pepper sprayed, physically assaulted, and shot multiple times by ICE agents.
According to witness and offical accounts, Pretti was lawfully carrying a gun but did not engage with his weapon at any time.
Nearby neighbors who rushed to the scene after news broke were tear gassed.
After the smoke cleared, people returned to the scene and fortifed the area with barricades. As the weekend wore on, tensions turned to grief as people packed around where Pretti was killed, leaving offerings.
Nightime vigils happened across the city on Saturday night.
Pretti lived in the Lyndale neighborhood.
