WHITTIER ACTOR IN CTC PERFORMANCE
Whittier resident Adam Qualls plays “Grandpa Who”in the Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) return engagement of Dr. Seuss’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” which will run from Nov. 4, 2025- Jan. 4, 2026. He’s appeared in over a dozen CTC productions, including “Shrek the Musical,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and “Jackie and Me.” He’s also performed with History Theatre, Theater Latté Da, The Ordway, Artistry, and Illusion Theater, among others.
citizenship class begins
This fall, the Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) launches a brand-new U.S. Citizenship Preparation Class, designed to support neighbors on their journey to becoming U.S. citizens. The class began Oct. 6 and will be held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6–8 p.m. at the Blaisdell YMCA (3335 Blaisdell Ave. S). ALLIIANCE RECEIVES AWARD
AIA Minnesota is pleased to announce that Alliiance (400 Clifton Ave.) is the 2025 AIA Minnesota Firm Award recipient. The Architectural Alliance (the firm’s original name) was founded in 1970 by Bob Bell, AIA, John Lackens, FAIA, and Herb Ketcham, FAIA, on a collaborative design philosophy that prioritized teamwork, client partnership, and connecting people and place through design. That founding ethos still guides the firm today.
AVIVO EXPANDS TO ST. CLOUD
Community leaders, elected officials, and Avivo staff gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony for Avivo Village Central Minnesota on Friday, Sept. 26 at 3100 1st St. S, St. Cloud. The Avivo Village model created by Avivo is a low-barrier shelter offering secure, private rooms and wrap-around services. Residents are welcomed with dignity, may bring pets and belongings, and receive individualized support on their path from unsheltered homelessness to permanent housing. The 100-unit Avivo Village, the first-ever indoor tiny home shelter, opened in 2021 at 1251 N Washington Ave. in Minneapolis and served 885 people last year.
PATHS AT TODD PARK AND PEARL PARK
With Todd Park’s new playground recently completed, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is moving forward with plans for additional improvements at that park (5600 Chicago Ave.) and Pearl Park (414 E Diamond Lake Rd.). Both locations will see improvements to paths. At Todd Park, there will also be youth girls fastpitch softball field improvements in partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools, renovation of the tennis courts and half-court basketball area, and stormwater management improvements. Construction is planned for 2026 and 2027.
