This fall, the Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) is excited to launch a brand-new U.S. Citizenship Preparation Class, designed to support neighbors on their journey to becoming U.S. citizens. The class begins October 6 and will be held Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6–8 p.m. at the Blaisdell YMCA (3335 Blaisdell Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55408).
LNA created this course after hearing directly from neighbors who shared that more support is needed in navigating the citizenship process. In response, LNA began researching and developing a curriculum over the spring and summer, ensuring the course would meet community needs and provide clear, practical tools to guide participants through naturalization.
The class will include:
This new class is part of LNA’s broader Lyndale Education Program, which provides adults free, accessible classes in English and computer basics. Over the past year, LNA has expanded its education offerings in partnership with local organizations like Sagrado Corazon (Incarnation Church) and the Sabathani Community Center, ensuring that classes are held at locations where neighbors are already comfortable gathering.
“Education is a core part of our mission at LNA,” said LNA Executive Director Sami Smetana. “We believe that by helping our neighbors gain knowledge, skills, and confidence, we’re building a stronger, more connected community.”
The Citizenship Class is open to all – whether you’re just starting your application or preparing for your final interview. Drop-ins are welcome, and there is no cost to attend.
