TO-DATE RAINFALL REMAINS BELOW LAST YEAR'S TOTAL

Posted

By this time last year, the Twin Cities had received approximately 35.3 inches of precipitation, placing 2025 rainfall about 7 inches below last year’s to-date total. This deficit is largely due to lower spring and summer precipitation, with 2025 monthly precipitation totals in April – August remaining below last year’s totals for each of those months.

Fall 2025 precipitation trends were also milder compared to the extreme drought that set in during September 2024. While the watershed avoided drought conditions throughout Fall 2025, below-normal November precipitation led to abnormally dry conditions by the end of the month, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Looking ahead, the NWS’ seasonal outlook predicts slightly above-normal precipitation and below-normal temperatures for Winter 2025-2026.
