Time’s up for C. David George, the landlord of the 2312 Lyndale Ave. S. apartment building that caught on fire in December 2022 and was subsequently torn down by the City. The rubble from that fire remains piled up in between Leaning Tower of Pizza and an apartment building.

Ward 10 Councilmember Aisha Chughtai updated the public on next steps regarding 2312 Lyndale Ave S. on social media today.

After issuing numerous citations to George, the City is now proceeding with the cleanup after George missed a cleanup deadline. George had a contractor lined up, and, according to a City source, the contractor has been in communication with the City. All that was missing was the money.

According to George’s lawyer, George’s insurance company has not issued the money to pay the contractor because the building was not appraised by the insurance company for full demolition. There were few updates from George to the City on the insurance company’s decision to not pay for the cleanup.

The City’s Community Planning and Economic Development department will be in charge of accepting bids for contractors to clean up the rubble.

The City Council’s Policy & Government Oversight Committee will approve the contractor bid. The timeline for the bidding process would have the contractor bid to the committee for approval at the soonest by September. The City Council would need to approve the bid as well. The soonest the City could start cleaning up with the approved contractor would be October.
