Minnesota Cuba solidarity groups to join National Week of Action to protest U.S. blockade of Cuba

On Oct. 28, 2026, the UN General Assembly will vote for the 34th time to condemn the illegal US blockade of Cuba. For 33 years, the world has voted overwhelmingly to end it, averaging 168 countries voting with Cuba to end the blockade and three with the United States.

From a statement by the Minnesota Cuba Committee: "The US government has ignored every single vote. This year, the US has imposed a medieval siege on Cuba, blocking all but one shipment of oil to the island in 10 months, even preventing food and medicine from reaching Cubans through sanctions, and is now threatening other countries to vote against Cuba on Oct. 28. We must defend Cuba's right to sovereignty, peace, and survival and show that people in the US stand with Cuba to end the slow genocide being waged against the Cuban people by the US government.

In the Twin Cities they are having a series of banner drops over bridges from 4-5 p.m. to heighten awareness of this issue.

· Monday, Oct 26: Irene Hixon Whitney Bridge, Walker Art Center at Vineland Pl and Lyndale Ave S
· Tuesday, Oct 27: Snelling Avenue Bridge over 1-94
· Wednesday, Oct 28: Lake Street-Marshall Bridge

Endorsers include Minnesota Cuba Committee, Solidarity Committee on the Americas, Veterans for Peace, Witness for Peace Solidarity Collective, and the National Network on Cuba.
