Sidewalks being replaced in Armatage, residents paying repair bill

Posted

Sidewalk repairs in Armatage are scheduled to begin July 13.
Repairs will move west from Penn Avenue.

Like with street work, property owners are assessed for sidewalk repairs.  Property owners will receive their first invoice in early 2027.

Wondering why property taxes don't pay for sidewalk repairs? According to the City, you cannot use property taxes for one-time capital costs such as sidewalk repairs. Property taxes pay for yearly City services needed to meet City goals, such as: fire, polie, parks, libraries, and maintaining roads and streets.

The City inspects sidewalks by neighborhood on a rotating basis every 20 to 25 years.

During the inspection period, the City replaces sidewalk panels that are defective or have conditions that put people at risk.
