Yesterday the City of Minneapolis Planning Commission approved plans to build a new housing development at the former site of the Lake Harriet Christian Church at 5009 Beard Ave. S.  As we reported in March, the church’s property was sold for $1.5 million. Property records show that Beard Manager LCC, via Yellow Tree LLC–a commercial real estate development and construction firm- owns the property now.

The proposed development would be a five-story, mixed-use building with 63 apartments and commercial space. The apartments would be a mix of studios and one and two bedrooms. The building would include a parking garage, with 63 vehicle stalls and “a minimum” of 63 bike parking spots. Proposed housing amenities include a fitness room, roof deck, and other common areas.

The plan being presented to the Planning Commission today does not have details on the amount of affordable units being made available but the paperwork reads, “The development shall comply with the City’s inclusionary housing requirements by providing affordable units on-site.”  For more information about the building plans, start with page 24 of this document.

The Planning Commission also approved a plan to add a 12,00 square foot addition to the 4300 and 4312 Upton Ave. lots in Linden Hills. The building will face out to 43rd Street. We covered the details of this development in November, which you can read about here.
